The collapse of a bridge at Wahkoh in Umkiang village yesterday resulted in an extreme traffic snarl.
The Waheh Shnong of Umkiang, Lasting Pala, has expressed concern and said that the state government and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) lack seriousness and do not take responsibility for the deplorable roads and bridges in the area.
The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, Shivansh Awasthi, informed that temporary restorations were undertaken.
Bridges and roads in Narpuh have turned from bad to worse in recent times and are a threat to passersby. Complaints by residents have largely gone unheeded by the state, locals complain.
