In a setback to the National People’s Party (NPP) in Nongpoh constituency, three of its senior leaders today left the party and joined the Congress.
NPP Nongpoh Block adviser Minsing Makri, working president Stoin R. Syngkli, and secretary Lawrence Nongrum joined the Congress at a gathering held at Sajer, Nongpoh.
The three NPP leaders also brought with them several NPP members from various zones, circles, and units under Nongpoh constituency.
They were warmly welcomed into the Congress by Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee (RBDCC) president M G Kharshanlor in the presence of Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) president Joplin Scott Lyngdoh, RBDCC vice president Rocky A. Marwein, Nongpoh Block Congress Committee (NBCC) president S W Mallai and other party functionaries.
Speaking at the event, the former NPP leaders said that they decided to leave their party as they were ignored by the NPP. They also said that since they were Congress members in the past, they were happy to rejoin the party and pledged to work tirelessly to strengthen the Congress, not only within the Nongpoh constituency but across the entire Ri-Bhoi District.
