A seven-day vocational training programme on ‘Empowerment of Women and Tribal Youths through Organic Millet Farming in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya’ was held from October 23 to 30 at the College of Community Science in Tura.
The programme was funded by ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad.
Assistant professor Sabyasachi Majumdar coordinated this programme and 28 farmers from Kherapara village of West Garo Hills participated and learnt in detail about the package and practices of cultivation of great millet and foxtail millet, benefits of intercropping of millets with cowpea, use of biofertiliser, vermicompost, cow dung for cultivation of millets, necessities for preservation of local millet seeds and hands-on training on preparation of jowar roti.
