The Khasi Students Union (KSU), Mawkyrwat circle has demanded the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL) to pay compensation to the family of a boy killed after being electrocuted in Rangblang Pombriew, South West Khasi Hills district.
Jamewellson Thongni was killed on the spot yesterday due to negligence by the power utility in maintaining the electric pole.
KSU circle president Rutherford Lyngdoh at a press conference today said the MePDCL should take responsibility for the death of the boy. He accused the power department of negligence which had claimed the life of the boy and added that due compensation should be paid to the victim’s family.
Lyngdoh demanded that the department carry out an inspection to check the condition of the electric poles and work out on fencing of transformers within a month, to prevent such incidents.
