The office of the District Sports Officer, East Jaintia Hills in collaboration with the district Administration felicitated all the state level medal achievers both in athletics and football at a programme held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office yesterday.
The felicitation ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner, Shivansh Awasthi in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, J.U. Kharpuri, District Sports Officer, S. M Rapsang, District Sports Association members, traditional heads, coaches and athletes and others.
Awasthi in his address commended the office of the District Sports Officer for taking up the initiative to felicitate the medal winners of the district and congratulated all the athletes who have brought laurels to the district while also informing them that the felicitation formed part of the government’s effort to support athletes in their pursuit of sports excellence.
He also enlightened the gathering on the efforts of the government to provide all possible assistance to the athletes of the state citing the different sports infrastructure made available to sports persons across the state and the talent identification programme organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) as interventions in this regard. He also stated that the district administration is committed to provide every possible support system to sports persons of East Jaintia Hills district.
During the felicitation programme, cash awards were given to all the medal winners in the state level inter school athletics meet 2023-24, Under-14 Years (Boys) state level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2023, Under-17 Years (Boys) and Under-12 Years (Girls) Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme (CMYDS) Football Tournament, 2023 and to the Athletics Coaches from the district.
