A Continuing medical education (CME) for obstetrics and gynaecologists on ‘Spare the Uterus: Judicious Caesarean Section and Hysterectomy’ was organised at NEIGRIHMS today.
The programme was organised by the Department of Obs & Gyne to dwell on the burning issue and current trend of performing unnecessary caesarean sections and hysterectomy. The appropriate indications for doing such surgeries and the ways to reduce unwanted surgeries were deliberated at the CME.
Eminent gynecologists, Dr. Parul Kotdawala, Chairman of Indian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ICOG) and Dr. Sonal Kotdawala from Ahmedabad were the resource persons for the CME that was highly acclaimed and very well received.
NEIGRIHMS Director NEIGRIHMS Prof. Nalin Mehta, Dean Prof AS Singh, and members of the Shillong Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society were present during the CME.
Meanwhile, the institute conducted a cultural competency workshop for foundation course of first year MBBS students on October 26.
The event was organised by the Medical Education Unit (MEU) of NEIGRIHMS and the Tribal Health Collaborative, Piramal Foundation, in collaboration with the Ngunuk Foundation
The workshop, attended by over 50 doctors, was aimed to enhance understanding and sensitivity among healthcare providers toward diverse tribal communities.
The workshop covered topics such as managing biases, understanding ethnocentrism, and respecting indigenous knowledge, creating a comprehensive understanding for young medical practitioners.
