Shillong has emerged as a top tourist destination for Indian travellers.
This was revealed in the ‘Travel Trends 2025’, a survey report that was released by Skyscanner, a global travel app.
Shillong is the only Indian city in the top ten tourist destinations for Indian travelers, as per the survey report.
It was followed by Baku (Azerbaijan), Langkawi (Malaysia), Tromso (Norway), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Al-Ula (Saudi Arabia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Krabi (Thailand) and Tokyo (Japan).
“Known as the “Scotland of the East”, Shillong enchants visitors with its stunning landscapes, including lush hills, waterfalls, and pristine lakes. This hill station has become a social media sensation, attracting nature lovers and adventure seekers. The government’s push for sustainable and eco-tourism adds to its appeal, making Shillong a top choice for conscious travelers,” the report said.
As per the report, Shillong witnessed an increase of 828 per cent flight searches compared to 2023 during the same period.
It also said that Baku (Azerbaijan) is emerging as a dynamic travel destination for Indian travellers, offering an affordable European experience with a unique cultural flavour.
The survey also found that Langkawi’s unmatched natural landscapes and pearl-white sand beaches make it a paradise for beach enthusiasts. “Visa-free entry for Indian travellers and a strategic geographical location enhance its appeal. Whether you want to relax on its pristine beaches or explore its lush rainforests, Langkawi offers the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure,” it added.
It also mentioned that Tromso (Norway) is among the world’s best locations to witness the aurora borealis, attracting travellers from across the globe. Tromsø’s magical winter wonderland offers excursions from fjord explorations to Northern Lights chases.
Further, the report said that Tashkent (Uzbekistan) is quickly gaining favour among budget-conscious Indian travellers, offering a rich cultural experience without breaking the bank. “The strong Indian Rupee against the Uzbekistani Som also makes Tashkent a hidden gem in Central Asia,” the report added.
