Evershine English Secondary School hosted a workshop on ‘Youth Mental Well-being’, organized by the Educational Centre for Social Sciences Research, Counselling & Training (ECSSRCT) in collaboration with YESS Meghalaya and the District Mental Health Programme, Jowai.
The event brought together 78 participants, including students, educators, and community members, to address pressing mental health issues affecting the youth.
The workshop featured resource persons, with Diana Roy, a counsellor from the District Mental Health Programme, Jowai. She emphasized the importance of adolescent education on mental health and suicide prevention, fostering open dialogue about the challenges faced by young people.
Fr. James Mani, a community worker, made a presentation on the vital role of community support systems. He highlighted how families, teachers, and elders can work together to create a nurturing environment for youth mental health.
Dr. Wandaia Syngkon, an academician and social worker, led a session on building emotional resilience. Participants learned practical strategies for stress management and coping with everyday challenges, equipping them with essential tools for personal growth.
The workshop concluded with a session by Theresa Syngkon, a psychologist, who guided attendees on recognizing when to seek professional help. She provided valuable insights into accessing mental health resources available in the community.
The event was met with enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of addressing mental well-being in today’s society. ECSSRCT aims to continue fostering awareness and support for youth mental health in Meghalaya through future initiatives.
