The Congress is set to lose the post of leader of opposition as the party has now been reduced to just one MLA in a House of 60.
Congress MLA from Mylliem Ronnie V. Lyngdoh was appointed as leader of opposition on June 8.
The Congress earlier had five MLAs. However, its strength came down to four after the resignation of Gambegre MLA Saleng A. Sangma after he was elected as MP of Tura parliamentary seat.
In the current scenario, the Trinamool Congress which has five MLAs is the rightful claimant for the post of leader of opposition.
Besides Trinamool Congress, another party in the opposition bench is the VPP which has four MLAs.
The Gambegre seat is still vacant in the Assembly.
