Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today inaugurated two projects at Pyndendiwah village in South West Khasi Hills district.
The projects include a community Hall and a swimming pool under the land development for waste land implemented by the office of the Mawkyrwat Block Development Officer under the Chief Minister’s Special Rural Development Fund in convergence and the MGNREGS.
The cost for construction of the community hall was at Rs. 34, 85,605 and Rs. 26, 84,106 for the swimming pool
Speaking at the inauguration function, the deputy chief minister said the government would assess the feasibility of improving road connectivity with an intermediate lane from Pyndendiwah to Laitnongrim village, which would significantly benefit the local population.
He expressed optimism that more developmental projects would be undertaken in the village and the district as a whole.
Highlighting the initiatives across various sectors undertaken by the government, Tynsong said the state has extended support to 21 colleges through the People’s College initiative. Additionally, 24 positions have been sanctioned for Sngap Syiem College Mawkyrwat, under this scheme.
He also announced that the government has secured the approval to establish 35 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across Meghalaya, which will be set up in 35 block and headquarters and would play a vital role in providing quality education to the underprivileged communities in the state.
Tynsong spoke on enhancing road infrastructure to improve transportation and stimulate tourism in the district and informed that the Weiloi-Mawkyrwat-Ranikor road is in the priority list for upgradation to an intermediate lane from the World Bank loan under the second phase of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP).
He also urged village heads and landowners to cooperate in the land acquisition process for road construction, emphasizing that it would serve the greater good and benefit the entire district.
On the price slump of agricultural produce, Tynsong underscored the importance of establishing a storage facility for non-perishable goods, which would allow farmers to store their produce for longer periods and sell it when prices increase. He also encouraged the community to work together with the government in advancing various sectors within the district to achieve holistic development and improve the well-being of all citizens.
Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar noted that Pyndendiwah is the first village in the district to have a swimming pool and commended their efforts in presenting a master plan and proposals for various projects in the village.
He also emphasised the importance of inter-district road connectivity, which will connect South West Khasi Hills to West Khasi Hills District and Eastern West Khasi Hills in order to facilitate the transportation of goods and agricultural produce, which would greatly benefit local farmers. He expressed hope that, in the near future, there would be improved road connectivity between Shillong, Mawkyrwat, and Ranikor.
Earlier in the program, Myntri of Pyndendiwah Spiland Jyrwa submitted a memorandum to the deputy chief minister outlining several proposed projects for Pyndendiwah village. These proposals included plans for mesh wire fencing around the swimming pool, a parking area, a basketball court, a fish sanctuary or river rejuvenation project (dam), a futsal playground, a children’s park, and boundary wall fencing.
Mawkyrwat MDC Carnes Sohshang, Additional Deputy Commissioner cum Project Director DRDA, L.T. Tariang, district officials among others were present on the occasion.
