Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the newly constructed building of the District Medical & Health Officer, Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi District.
The new DMHO building was constructed at a cost of Rs 18.4 crore.
Speaking at the function, Sangma announced that the Nongpoh Civil Hospital will be converted into a trauma centre to fulfill the long pending demand of the people of Ri Bhoi district. He said that the staff would be relocated to the new office, and the existing building at Civil Hospital Nongpoh would be converted into a trauma centre.
The trauma centre has been taken up under the scheme “capacity building for development of trauma care facility in national highways under centrally sponsored scheme (CSS).
The Chief Minister said that government has accorded financial sanction for renovation of PHCs and CHCs across the state. He said that 148 healthcare centres are being renovated, including upgrades of civil hospitals at the district level.
The three district hospitals that are currently being upgraded are Tura, Shillong and Jowai Civil Hospital. He informed that the government has invested Rs. 70 crore for the development of 80 facilities across the state.
He said besides infrastructure, the government also aims to improve the staff accommodation and quarters throughout the districts, as well as creation of a separate recruitment board to help the health department improve recruitment of doctors and nurses.
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and Chairman Meghalaya Health System Strengthening Project and MLA Mayralborn Syiem, health officials and others were present at the programme.
