The Meghalaya government has announced a large-scale recruitment for Home Guards to fill more than 400 vacant positions.
Comingone Ymbon, the minister in charge, stated today that the recruitment process will begin in September.
The recruitment drive aims to fill 445 vacancies for various positions, including Sub-Inspector, Guardsman, Driver and Non-Combatant Employee. These positions are open to Indian citizens domiciled in Meghalaya, with an upper age limit of 32 years.
However, the announcement comes amid allegations of pending salaries for existing Home Guard personnel.
Around 300 home guards in Tura recently appealed to the Chief Minister, citing unpaid salaries for the past four months. They claim to be struggling to afford basic necessities and feel discriminated against compared to their counterparts in Khasi Hills.
However, Ymbon maintained that there are no issues with pending salaries.
The recruitment drive is expected to address the shortage of manpower in the police department, particularly in traffic management.
