Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) president KP Pangniang has said that the party will fight the coming district council election solo.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) and the HSPDP had together formed the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), a coalition for the recently concluded Lok Sabha and fielded a common candidate in Robertjune Kharjahrin, who failed miserably.
Pangniang said both the parties will continue with the same formula of 2019 polls wherein they contested separately. He said the RDA is not a pre-poll alliance but a platform to take up important issues of the indigenous community.
He stated that the RDA is intact but both the HSPDP and the UDP have their own manifestoes and principles of working. “Being in an alliance helps since important issues of the indigenous community could be taken up collectively and hence grouping is necessary,” he added.
Pangniang said the intention of both the regional parties is only to work on common issues and to achieve this end, an alliance is necessary.
He said that the RDA has not got the mandate to rule the state but expressed hope that one day it will be fulfilled. “We see that through the alliance we will be able to form the government as per the desire of the people,” Pangniang added.
