The Meghalaya High Court has clarified that its intention to visit Paro airport in Bhutan was to have an idea as to how bigger flights are being operated in such a small airport and what are the facilities made available for safer landing and taking off from the airport.
In an order passed today, the division bench of Chief Justice S Vaidyanathan and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh said that the purpose of visit of the judges and officials of Meghalaya High Court is to ascertain the possibility of adopting the same modus operandi being followed in Bhutan in order to facilitate larger and sizeable aircrafts to land and take off in the Shillong Airport without any difficulty.
“The word ‘inspection’ found in our earlier orders does not mean an inspection of an airport in a different country. It is only a visit to know the feasibility of mid-size aircraft landing and taking off at a smaller airport,” the High Court said.
