After 14 years, the Shillong Press Club today had its second election in which almost 90 per cent of the members took part.
The election which was conducted by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations saw contenders vying for the positions of president, general secretary and treasurer.
A total of 164 media persons from various media houses in the State cast their votes in the election.
Mawphor editor Deimaia Siangshai was elected to the post of president in a three-corner contest.
Siangshai secured 91 votes against Joe Thangkhiew, managing editor of Batesi, who got 67 votes and Raphael Warjri of Media Plus who got six votes.
Dominic Savio Diengdoh, producer of T7 News, was elected unopposed to the post of general secretary.
Gershom Hat, editor of U Peitngor, who bagged 113 votes was elected to the post of treasurer beating Martin Nongkhlaw, senior reporter of Batesi TV, who got 50 votes.
Director of Information and Public Relations, Malthus Sangma handed over the certificates of election to the three elected candidates.
The first election of SPC was held in 2010 in which David Laitphlang of Eastern Chronicle won by a margin of just six votes against John Wilson Thabah, editor of Highland Post.
