North Garo Hills Police busted a dacoity gang that is active in the inter-state boundary areas between Assam and Meghalaya.
The operation was carried out by the district police after a formal police complaint was filed at the Mendipathar police station by victims who were looted of money and valuable at gun point on June 18.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police and his team went to the suspected hideout in the neighbouring areas of Assam and arrested one Sunil Boro (33) of Upper Borgum, Dudhnoi from Dhupdhara PS jurisdiction along with the scooty bearing registration number ASI8J-0181, which was used during the commission of the crime.
The others, who were identified as Kaltu Rabha, Turti Basumatary and Sahadev Basumatary all from Dudhnoi area of Assam managed to escape.
Superintendent of Police, Swapnil V Pawar said following an intense search operation yesterday one of the co-accused Turti Basumatary surrendered before the North Garo Hills police along with one semi-automatic pistol with two live rounds. On his leading, co-accused Sahadev Basumatary was arrested from Assam-Meghalaya border near Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills.
He said search operation is still ongoing to arrest the other accused persons, who are habitual offenders and involved in many dacoity cases in Assam and Meghalaya.
According to police, on June 18 four miscreants, who were on 2 two wheelers (Aprilia Scooty AS18J-0181 and Bajaj Pulsar 220 (AS18 E-7925) stopped the victims and at gun point demanded money. They took away an amount of Rs. 80,000, personal documents along with two (two) mobile phones with SIM cards.
While the same gang were intercepted by villagers of Beldongpara under Krishnai, Goalpara in Assam they manage to flee from the scene of the incident near Manikganj in North Garo Hill leaving their Pulsar bike behind. It was later handed over to Mendipathar Police Station.
