Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar has raised concerns over erratic supply of power in numerous villages under Ri Bhoi district that has inconvenienced consumers, especially students.
Marngar met with Power Minister AT Mondal today and submitted a list of areas and villages that receive frequent power cuts and those who are yet to be electrified.
While areas such as Mawhati, Sonidan, Umtrai and Umsiang areas, including many villages in these areas are experiencing irregular power supply, the MLA also said that there are also villages that are de-electrified such as Makdoh, Muska, Amjong, Markhangduba, Amdubighat, Amphreng and Nongthymmai Makdoh.
He said electric poles and cables were installed in these villages under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana from 2018-2019 but left without power due to faulty power lines.
Marngar urged Mondal to take the matter as a priority to ease life of the villagers, including students who have to prepare for their examinations.
