Civil society organisations from Assam have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the conditions of the National Highway 6 that connects Silchar to Guwahati via Lumshnong in Meghalaya.
Leaders of the Barak Udayam, Awaz Foundation, Badarpur Development Parishad, Netaji Foundation, Yuvashakti, and Lions Club of Badarpur Greater have expressed concern over the deplorable and atrocious conditions of the road and stated that it was important to being to the attention of the Prime Minister, which may have inadvertently escaped notice.
The organisations informed the PM that the NH-6 is the only road that connects Assam, Manipur and Tripura and its deplorable condition has affected people from all the four states of the Northeast.
“The stretch of approximately 50 km from Malidor to Lumshnong is in a deplorable state, causing significant inconvenience to the residents of Barak Valley in the southern part of Assam, especially during medical emergencies. The poor condition of this road segment leads to prolonged travel times and road blockages, hampering the daily lives of the local population,” the organisations said.
Photographs of the road and news reports were also attached with the letter to the PM with a plea to consider the urgent need for improvements of the NH-6 to bring relief to the residents of the region who are suffering from untold miseries.
