Acting on a tip-off, Border Security Force personnel from the 193rd Battalion yesterday apprehended two suspected drug peddlers who were laden with nearly 2,500 yaba (a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine) tablets and 10 grammes of heroin.
The operation was conducted in the area under Ranikor police station in South West Khasi Hills. The drug peddlers, traveling in an Alto, were intercepted by the BSF team while they were heading towards the border near Ranikor.
The duo were self-identified as Joydeep Paul and Nabajit Sen, residents of East Khasi Hills. The seized drugs and the two suspects were handed over by the BSF to Ranikor police station for further legal action.
BSF to the rescue
Meanwhile, in an act of service and dedication to humanity, the personnel of the BSF’s 1st Battalion rescued two locals who were injured in a road accident near the border village of Illatoli in South Garo Hills. Demonstrating swift action and care, the BSF personnel immediately administered first aid to the injured individuals. They were then safely evacuated to the district hospital in Baghmara using a BSF ambulance.
