Shillong, May 10: In a solemn ceremony in the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan, Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan felicitated 20 NCC cadets of Shillong Group National Cadets Corps who had represented the state in the Republic Day Camp in January in New Delhi.
The Additional Director General of the North Eastern Region (NER) Directorate of NCC, Maj Gen Gagan Deep, and Group Commander Meghalaya Group NCC, Brig Vijayant Mahadik, were in attendance along with officers of NCC, parents and school principals.
The Governor and Maj Gen Deep also addressed the cadets and exhorted them to keep working towards the twin aims of unity and discipline. The cadets were presented with a certificate and cash incentive by Chauhan in recognition of their efforts. These cadets were selected after a grueling series of Pre-RDC Camps. In Delhi they participated in a variety of activities like guard of honour, National Integration Awareness Programme, cultural programme, flag area competition, Prime Minister’s rally, etc. Four out of these 20 cadets were part of the NCC contingent that marched on Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) in the Republic Day parade in January.
The Governor also presented a citation to the Maj Gen Deep, the ADG and units of Meghalaya NCC in recognition of their stellar and exceptional service to the nation and community as NCC fraternity.
The NCC NER Directorate is spread across seven states of the North East with more than 1 lakh cadets and has striven to provide exceptional service in community development, youth empowerment, adventure activities and disaster management. During the year, the North East NCC Directorate has done yeoman service in which 11 cadets joined the armed forces as officers, 276 as Agniveers and 120 joined the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
