A three-day Geographical Indication (GI) Mahotsav was inaugurated at the Malki Ground here to celebrate authenticity and heritage
Organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce the event will conclude on March 30.
Geographical Indication (G I) products, recognized for their unique qualities and regional significance as well as intricately woven textiles to delectable culinary delights are being showcased to offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Meghalaya’s cultural heritage.
The exhibition not only showcases the diversity and craftsmanship inherent in GI products but also highlights their economic and cultural importance. By protecting the intellectual property rights of local artisans and producers, G I recognition ensures fair recognition and remuneration for their skills and traditions.
Guests from NIFT, Ministry of MSME, NABARD and TRIFED attended the inaugural function. Ishantor Sobhapandit, Regional Director from the Indian Chamber of Commerce – NER reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion and development of G I products, especially from Northeast and other regions across the country, in the forthcoming days.
