Members of the Shillong All Faith Forum (SAFF) recently met Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Donald P Wahlang to discuss issues faced by the border residents of Meghalaya with Assam.
According to SAFF vice-president Nababrata Bhattacharjee they apprised the Chief Secretary of the situation even as they expressed concern that peace should prevail not only in the state but also in the borders.
“The amity, brotherhood and harmony among the people of the two states (should be maintained) and that our people are not harassed or instigated,” Bhattacharjee said after the working committee meeting of the SAFF.
According to him, the Chief Secretary informed the SAFF members that he is in regular contact with his Assam counterpart on a day to day basis to monitor the situation in the border areas.
Meanwhile, SAFF president Rev. Bishop Purely Lyngdoh said that Shillong has been and is a land of peace.
Lyngdoh said that even the media has the responsibility to build up peace and harmony in the state.
“It is only with peace and harmony that we can live together, grow and prosper together,” he said.
The SAFF president called upon all to start the process of peace and harmony from Shillong and take it further to all over the state and northeast and subsequently to the whole country.
“This is what India needs today, peace and harmony and by doing so one honours and respects the creator,” Lyngdoh said.
He also said that the recent incidents in Shillong and Ri-Bhoi district is only to instigate the people of the state which one should not fall into.
