Personnel of the 172nd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya thwarted a smuggling attempt yesterday in East Jaintia Hills.
The smugglers were trying to illegally transport clothing items and health supplements valued at over Rs 14 lakh into the neighbouring country.
While clothes are a common item that criminals try to smuggle over the border, health supplements are more rare.
Acting on specific information, the consignment was seized by BSF troops when it was dumped in a jungle near the international border, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The seized items were handed over to the local customs office for further action.
