Under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Ri-Bhoi, organised a one day campaign yesterday to open doors to education for children and addressing school dropouts.

The event, held in Umkei village, witnessed significant participation from locals and neighbouring villages.

Key figures present included DLSA Secretary DMKS Shadap, legal aid counsels M Namsaw and Q Mawphniang and representatives of other departments.

The campaign shed light on the challenges faced by children and stressed their legal rights and protection. Discussions also covered various welfare schemes available for citizens. Shadap underscored the DLSA’s commitment to providing free legal services to marginalised sections of society. Topics such as fundamental rights, the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, child-friendly legal services and protection schemes were discussed by the resource persons.

Additionally, sessions addressed issues like child marriage, prohibition acts, child rights and child labour. The event concluded with an interactive session.
