      The State government will recruitment 3108 more police personnel at the various border outposts and police stations.

      This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the House today. “We have recruited 996 additional police personnel because precisely for the reason different border outpost and though the sanction post was there recruitment was not done hence vacant,” he said.

      Replying to a query on inadequate police presence during a discussion on the motion about “problems faced by the people in the border dispute”, he said, “We are going for recruitment drive of 3108 more police personnel.  These are posts are already existing… and once this process is done we will be able to see much stronger presence of our police force at the grassroot level”.

      The Chief Minister also informed that the state government has started an engineering wing within the police department. “This may sound very simple but it gives the SP the necessary freedom to invest and work in the different outposts and police station and provide the necessary infrastructure without having to go through another engineering wing or PWD or any other agencies,” he added.

      He said with such small reforms taking place the overall police force are strengthening and more investment are also being made.

      He also informed that the largest purchase of vehicle in the history of the state was made for police.

      He said vehicle close to 90 plus boleros and 150 bikes was purchased by the government and this was done to provide to the rural areas so that the movement of the police can be more flexible at the grassroot level.
