With little more than a week to go before the event was meant to begin, the Monolith Festival has been deferred to March.
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council’s (KHADC) cultural event was meant to be held in December but was postponed to this month. Now, even after advertisements had begun running promoting the February 22-24 dates, the festival’s coordination committee has decided to push the event to March 7-9.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting yesterday in the presence of KHADC Executive Members, other MDCs, representatives from Hima Mawphlang and the event management company.
Speaking to Highland Post, Deputy Chief Executive Member PN Syiem said that cold weather in Mawphlang is one of the reasons for the postponement.
Thorough discussions were held before reaching the decision, with the state government, which is helping organise the event, taken on board.
Syiem promised that the new dates in March are final.
