The Fish Eco Hatchery at Lahaleiñ village funded by MGNREGA, Basin Development Unit East Jaiñtia Hills and office of the Block Development Officer (C&RD Block Wapung), executed by the Village Employment Committee of Lahaleiñ was inaugurated on February 9.
The MLA of Sutnga Saipung, Santa Mary Shylla, inaugurated the hatchery in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal.
Shylla said that such projects will uplift and promote fish trade in the region and lauded the VEC, the DC and the Superintendent of Fisheries East Jaiñtia Hills, H Kharbuki, for bringing developmental works in the region and for making the project a reality.
Baranwal said that the hatchery is the first in India that has been executed by the VEC Lahaleiñ and expressed hope that the hatchery will be able to supply the fingerlings in the entire district and other neighbouring districts in Assam.
Kharbuki informed that the Eco Hatchery has been built as per the supervision of the NFDB Hyderabad, including technical specifications. Lahalein Fish Farmer Producer Organisation has also been registered at the NFDB Hyderabad.
He said that the hatchery at East Jaiñtia Hills District will be able to produce about 10 million fingerlings annually and generate employment opportunities for many.
