The Ri Bhoi Tourism & Developmental Development Forum organised a 5-kilometer walk on Saturday, aiming to promote the renowned tourism destination nestled within the sacred grove of Raid Nonglyngdoh in Ri Bhoi District, known as Pnah Kyndeng, which also features the sacred bat caves locally referred to as Krem Lymbit.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from various quarters including the Tourism Department of Ri Bhoi District, led by Bansynsharlang Nongkynrih, the Chairman of RBTDF, Plielad Tiewsoh, local residents of Nongpoh, members of Raid Nonglyngdoh, and others.
An official program held at the Sacred Grove witnessed the presence of Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh from the Meghalaya Tourism Department & Arts and Culture department, alongside local legislator Mayralborn Syiem, Tourism Department Director Cyril Diengdoh, and others.
Tourism Minster Lyngdoh praised the relentless dedication of RBTDF members in advancing tourism in Ri Bhoi District. He emphasised the significance of recognizing spots like the sacred grove of Pnah Kyndeng and the renowned Bat Cave (Krem Lymbit) through initiatives led by the tourism department.
Lyngdoh noted a shift in mindset among Meghalaya’s populace, with many now turning to the tourism sector for livelihoods instead of traditional sources like government jobs or mining activities.
He cited the example of Sohra, formerly reliant on coal mining and the MCCL cement factory, where residents are now embracing tourism by establishing homestays, guesthouses, and hotels.
As the Tourism Minister, Lyngdoh pledged to address the pertinent needs outlined in the memorandum presented during the occasion, affirming his commitment to promoting Pnah Kyndeng Bat Cave and Sacred Grove within the tourism sector.
Meanwhile, addressing the gathering, Mayralborn Syiem commended the tireless efforts of the Ri Bhoi Tourism & Developmental Forum in promoting various tourist spots within the district, emphasizing the potential for enhancing livelihoods through tourism-related activities.
He highlighted Ri Bhoi district’s abundant tourist spots, underscoring the need for concerted efforts to develop the state’s potential.
The participation of key figures like the Minister in-charge of Tourism and the Director of Tourism Department in visiting the sacred grove of Pnah Kyndeng is expected to galvanise local efforts in uplifting Pahamsken.
Syiem urged the local populace to adopt a welcoming attitude towards tourists, recognising their role in bolstering the state’s tourism sector and thereby improving livelihoods.
