Two persons believed to be involved in criminal activities were lynched by an angry mob at a village in South West Garo Hills yesterday night.
According to police, yesterday at around 8 pm, information was received that some dacoits have been detained by people in Jaluagre (MangsangGittim) village.
Accordingly, the In-Charge, Garodoba police operation group centre and his staff proceeded to the spot and rescued three persons who were detained and assaulted by the mob and kept on the roadside.
The three injured persons were taken immediately to Garobadha Primary Health Centre and during the treatment, two of them namely Balen G. Sangma (30) and Sken D. Shira (30) from Skagre village in Rangsakona area succumbed to their injuries.
Another rescued person – Betuwel D. Shira (22) of Arenggre village near Betasing was shifted to Tura Civil Hospital for better medical treatment.
The dead bodies were later taken to Ampati Civil Hospital morgue room for post-mortem examination after completion of all legal formalities. Inquest and other formalities have been completed diligently.
A Suo-moto case in this connection has been registered in Ampati polie station under Sections 302, 307, 326, 342, 427, 34 of IPC and is under investigation.
Further, from the place of occurrence, police recovered a Maruti 800 car (B/R AS -15-7176) used by the trio, one damaged mobile phone, a dagger, a seal of Chairman, United Garo People Forum (UGPF), South Western Zone, a notebook containing names of the office bearers of UGPF, Ampati Zone, eight different identity cards and money worth Rs 1700.
Police said that the two persons have criminal antecedents and have been arrested previously in various cases related to murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, carrying of arms etc in South West Garo Hills.
