Congress leader Manuel Badwar today lashed out at NPP candidate for the Lok Sabha elections, Ampareen Lyngdoh over her comment on sitting MP Vincent H Pala, asking her to refrain from loose talks.

Lyngdoh had said that she heard people complaining that they have not felt the presence of Pala and there is a big gap between the sitting MP and the people of the constituency.

Badwar defended Pala and said her comment was personal. “Personal attack on an individual is very wrong. Fight for what is important for the state and stop pointing fingers at others.”

He said as a candidate who has decided to contest for a position such as that of an MP, Lyngdoh should refrain from such loose talks.

The Congress leader said Pala is an able MP who can attend to every nook and corners of the state. “Pala has always been able to attend to every district mostly to the remotest villages and has always attended to various programs across Khasi-Jaintia hills. He does not treat people with bias, whether they support him or not,” he told reports on the side sidelines of a programme yesterday.

He said a candidate who has decided to contest a stature position of the MP should restrain from such loose talks.

Stating that Pala has brought in many schemes and developments and has always been vocal in parliament, he said that the Congress MP has raised and brought in road connectivity.

“Pala was also very vocal on the Forest Bill where the center is saying to take away 100 km from the border, but probably it may be because we are not in power so nothing is much visible and publicised,” he added.

He was hopeful that people understand that casting their votes should be for the ‘Jaitbynriew’, the state, and the country as a whole.

Badwar likened Indian politics to that of Russia, stating that autonomous institutions are being done away with. He said a time will come when everything in India will be decided by one powerful man and the entire democratic setup will be destroyed.

“When you cast your vote don’t only look for yours and your family’s benefits but for the entire people of the state because without a government that can protect a microscopic population like ours then everything will be lost including our principles,” he added.

He further said that the Yatra by Rahul Gandhi is also for justice which also means to get justified life. “You have seen the election predictors who have predicted that the BJP has always been a hardcore Hindu party that will intensify in the future and these are the issues we have to look at that pose a great threat to the people of the state.
