South West Garo Hills police has advised commuters along the road from Tura to Purakhasia and Garobada towards Monabari-Mankachar to exercise cautioned due to prevailing winter fog.
The police issued an advisory today, saying many accidents are taking place, mainly on these roads due to low visibility. Hence drivers and riders are to refrain from over-speeding and reckless driving and riding.
The advisory said the district police is contemplating to make wearing of helmets for both riders as well as pillion riders, fastening of seat belts for drivers as well as co-drivers mandatory as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Police has also urged both drivers and riders to avoid drunken driving or other intoxicating drinks.
“In this connection Ampati Police will be setting up naka points and carry out checking of vehicles, vehicle documents, driving license, wearing of seatbelts, wearing of helmets for both rider and pillion rider, triple ridding, overloading in passenger vehicles, etc within the jurisdiction of South West Garo Hills District and violators will be penalized as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act,” the advisory said.
Further the district police has urged the pubic to cooperate with the department in its effort towards safety of road users, to reduce the number of road accidents and fatalities.
