The State government has recently decided for adaptation of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) from class I to X in the next academic year. As a parent, I think the decision by the government is correct and timely in order to make our children cope with the changing education scenario. Recently, a number of school teachers in our State have expressed their agreement with the decision of the Education Department for adaptation of the NCERT textbooks.
NCERT textbooks are beneficial not only for the students but also for those aspiring to sit for competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, JEE, NEET, etc. Most IAS toppers and teachers consider these books vital for the preparation for the UPSC exams. These books cover a huge amount of information especially on India’s cultural history, politics and biodiversity which are undeniably an important part of the civil service exams.
Besides, NCERT textbooks cover the syllabus for various classes and are widely used by schools across the country. Their content is comprehensible and is highly reliable. They are easily available and affordable, making them accessible to a wide range of students and help in building a strong foundation. Adequate use of pictures, simplified tables, descriptive examples, maps, and an easy-to-understand language makes NCERT books very simple for anyone to read.
