The BJP in Meghalaya will fight the Lok Sabha elections from the Shillong and Tura seats on its own strength and will not support the National People’s Party (NPP) that helms the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance 2.0, for which it is one of the alliance.
“In the past elections BJP has been contesting on its own and not supporting any other party. So this time it will also be the same,” State BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said on the sidelines of a programme today.
The BJP that has been able to create a support base in the urban areas and Kharkrang was confident that the party will percolate to the rural constituents through hard work. He said a lot of people in the rural areas know about the benefits of the schemes introduced by the central government.
“We need to go an extra mile and people in the villages will actually know that these schemes will be coming if the BJP rules the state,” Kharkrang stated.
The spokesperson also said the state party leaders will have to wait for some more time before the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections are announced.
On the need to give more time to the candidates especially in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region, for them to tour the 36 constituencies, the he said that ample time should be given to prepare and canvas for the elections.
Kharkrang also said that this issue will be taken up with the central leadership of the party.
