BJP leader and cabinet minister Alexander Laloo Hek has asked the party to field women candidates from both the Shillong and Tura seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to media persons here during the party’s function to celebrate the BJP victory in the recently concluded Assembly polls in three states, Hek said that he is insisting that female candidates would be better for the party.
“If there are any potential women candidates, the party should field them from both the Shillong and Tura seats,” Hek said.
Terming the two parliamentary seats of Meghalaya as potential seats for the BJP, Hek said that the party is working in tandem with the newly elected office bearers to win the polls.
On whether he would like to be the party candidate from Shillong seat, Hek said that it all depends on the central leadership of BJP.
Pointing out that the party at the state level is working out on identifying the candidates from both the seats, Hek said that the final decision would be taken by the party’s central leadership.
On the party’s stunning electoral performance in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Hek said that the poll results only indicate that BJP will sweep the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
Asked about poor performance in Telangana and Mizoram, he said that the party has increased its vote share in these two states.
