In a solemn ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, Constitution Day, also known as ‘Samvidhan Divas’, was observed today, marking the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949.
The esteemed gathering, led by the Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, and the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey, along with officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, assembled in the Durbar Hall to and took the Constitution Day oath, reciting the Preamble aloud, reaffirming their commitment to the ideals enshrined in this supreme document.
It was in 2015 that November 26 was designated as Constitution Day. This decision coincided with the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of India’s Constitution.
