The AMRI Karbi Royal Council of the tribal king of Desh Doomorah (Desh Doomreah) has said that Assam must return the village to Meghalaya without dispute.
Desh Doomreah is one of the six areas of differences included in the phase two border talks between Meghalaya and Assam.
“As per historical facts Desh Doomorah is a Khasi state with reference to the Historical and Constitutional documents of North East India by ML Bose p/96 (copy enclosed),” King of Desh Doomorah Holi Sing Ronghang said in a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
He said the willingness of the people and administrative convenience should not be applicable to Desh Doomreah as the tribal belt and block non tribal are illegal citizens who have no legal right in it.
According to Ronghang “After Meghalaya is born, Desh Doomorah was divided for Ri Bhoi of Meghalaya and Kamrup district of Assam. Even constitutionally Desh Doomorah constituted Dimoria Tribal Block (South Kamrup), Tribal Belt and Rani Tribal Belt. Geographical continuity is very much in Meghalaya.”
Seeking immediate appropriate action, the tribal king said that settlement of the border dispute must be done before 2024 general election so that people can vote in Meghalaya.
