Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliem has sought relief for the family of a truck driver allegedly shot dead by the BSF at Mawshun near Pomshutia in Pynursla on May 5.
Mylliem moved a zero hour notice expressing concern that till date, neither the BSF nor the centre has sanctioned any kind of relief to the poor family.
“The family of Nongkynrih is unfortunately not getting the humane consideration which they should be getting. The deceased is survived by his wife and two young children aged between 4 and 3 months old. They belong to a very poor family and with the death of Nongkynrih, they are left no other breadwinner for the family,” he said.
Urging the state government to take up the matter with the centre, he said as this case is unusual the state government can also consider ex gratia assistance to the family.
Replying to Mylliem, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong said two FIRs—one by a family member and the BSF—were filed on the matter.
He narrated the incidents and said no one was arrested in connection with the case but police are making efforts to ascertain the facts and circumstances.
