Editor,
Medical treatment that has been affordable to many people across the State at the prestigious hospital like NEIGHRIMS has truly been a blessing in disguise where once upon a time critical care would have to be depended on going outside the State.
However, apart from the feel-good factor, there have been major problems and also issues on the professional ethics of doctors and staff in this hospital.
A very recent incident had happened in the pediatric ward where I had gone to visit a patient who was hospitalised for close to fifteen days without much headway in their treatment.
As it is the norm, the housekeeping staff should clean and sanitise the vacant beds of patients before preparing for an incoming patient to occupy. However, while sitting for a while on a vacant bed, an injectable needle pricked my right thigh. I was lucky that no bleeding occurred, leaving me in shock at the utter carelessness and callous patient care in this hospital.
It is very important that the hospital authorities do take responsibility and appropriate measures to see that carelessness such as this does not put people in dire straits.
