The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya rescued 96 cattle from the international border between East Khasi Hills and West Jaiñtia Hills districts, which were being smuggled from India into Bangladesh.
The BSF said during the operation, the smugglers fled away, taking advantage of the undulating terrain, and left the cattle behind.
Meanwhile in a joint operation conducted with the police, the BSF also seized huge quantity of sugar meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh from South West Khasi Hills district.
The BSF said the team had intercepted a vehicle near Rongra bordering area and since the driver transporting the consignment could not of provide valid justification, he was apprehended.
