The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has objected to the list of selected candidates for MBBS course in various medical colleges under the State quota as only three tribal names made it under the open category.
As per National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) merit list, 14 candidates were selected.
The KSU said that there are complaints that the 11 selected candidates are residents of Assam and suspects that documents were availed from Ampati in South Garo Hills district.
KSU General Secretary Donald V Thabah in a statement has demanded for a clarification from the state government by making public the Aadhaar Card and EPIC of the 11 candidates to verify if they are residents of Meghalaya. He said names of the colleges they last studied in should also be mentioned.
Further, the KSU has demanded that the candidates from the State should be given priority for the post of 70 contractual Medical and Health Officer and 100 Specialist.
The Health and Family Welfare Department has called for a walk-in interview on August 30 and September 1 for the posts, which all citizens from the country and the North East could apply.
“Since the job is under the government of Meghalaya, applications should not include candidates from other states and region,” Thabah said and questioned why recruitment could not be conducted by the Meghalaya Medical Recruitment Board.
He said there are many youth from the state who completed medical studies and the 170 vacant posts would benefit them.
