There are more than 15 government departments that do not exist or are non-functional in East Jaintia Hills.
The departments include the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Assistant Director Information and Public Relations, office of the Joint Director of Schools Education and Literacy, office of the Divisional Forest Office (Wildlife), Divisional Forest Office (Social Forestry), Divisional Forest Office (Territorial), District Librarian, Executive Engineer, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary office, Executive Engineer PHE Electrical Division, Executive Engineer PHE (RWS) Division, District Sericulture office, District Urban Planner/Town Planning Office, Executive Engineer Urban Affairs, District Handloom Office office of the Weaving Inspector, besides others.
Former Khliehriat MLA Justine Dkhar has expressed concern over this situation and stressed that the two MLAs from the district, Kyrmen Shylla (Khliehriat MLA) and Santa Mary Shylla (Sutnga Saipung MLA) to see that the departments are brought and others made functional in the district.
The presence of such offices will be a blessing to the people of the region, who now have to travel to Jowai or Shillong for various needs and incur huge expenses.
