The Catholic Association of Shillong has decided to send a memorandum to the President Droupadi Murmu to request the central government’s immediate intervention in Manipur.
Catholic Association member JA Lyngdoh informed today that the memorandum will be submitted through the Meghalaya Governor.
On the delay of the Manipur government and the central government to take concrete steps to end the violence, Lyngdoh said that this topic is now being spoken of worldwide and that is why it reason that they have also specifically appeal in their memorandum to the president of India that restoration of peace in Manipur should be the top priority.
“When we have requested the President of India’s intervention into the situation then it is expected that ultimately the President will take up and discuss the matter with the Union government of India,” he added.
Informing that the first step taken by the association was a direction to all the dioceses in the state to pray that peace in Manipur is restored, the association also informed that it have been helping the displaced people in Shillong who fled Manipur with food items, etc.
Meanwhile the association today announced that a peace rally will be held in Shillong on August 5 with an intention to raise concerns amongst all sections of society on the urgent need for peace and harmony to prevail once again in the violence stricken state of Manipur.
The rally will start at 10am from Madan Iewrynghep at Fire Brigade and will culminate at the Don Bosco Mini Stadium. The association has further urged upon all participants in the peace rally, to not provoke or incite feelings of hatred and condemnation against anyone but to peacefully display the desire for harmony, brotherhood and peace amongst the people of Manipur.
