An e-catalogue for crafts was launched by the Meghalaya Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDC Ltd) to promote products made by the rural artisans and weavers of Meghalaya to reach a wider audience within and outside the state.
MHHDC Ltd Chairperson Santa Mary Shylla said, “This initiative of the corporation will uplift the livelihood of the rural craftsperson and will enable them to showcase their exquisite products on the online platforms thereby bridging the gap between them and the customers.”
Customers and craft collectors can browse the link: meghhdc.co.in or scan the QR code given to shop for sustainable and organic products made from natural raw materials of Cane, bamboo, and wood and also featuring hand-woven clothing and accessories.
MHHDC a government undertaking was incorporated on January 10, 1979 with the objective to develop and promote handicrafts and handloom in all aspects in the state of Meghalaya. It aims to uplift the rural artisans, weavers and entrepreneurs and to empower them with the necessary skill sets required to meet consumer demands.
Currently, the corporation is marketing the products through its sales outlets in Kolkata, MTC Building, Jail Road, ES EF Mall, G.S. Road and ISBT, Mawïong, Shillong.
