The waheh shnong of Narpuh area and the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has given seven days time for the National Highway Authority of India and the State government to ensure that the stretch from Mynkre to Malidor along the NH 6 is repaired.
The delegation submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner today and stated that the national highway has been reduced to a kutcha road. “Life has become difficult and transportation of patients has become a huge problem with the condition of the road,” they said in a memorandum.
Demanding that repair works should be completed under the supervision of qualified engineers, the waheh shnongs and the KSU said they will have to resort to “coercive action like closing the toll gate and the highway.
People of East Jaiñtia Hills district have been constantly raising the demand for repair and restoration of the pot-hole ridden highway. The condition of the road had worsened with the monsoons that have affected traffic movement of the highway which connects Assam, Manipur and Tripura.
