The HSPDP today held its central executive committee (CEC) meeting to discuss on implementation of the job reservation roster in the State and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Briefing media persons after the meeting, HSPDP president K P Pangniang said that very soon the party would provide its suggestions concerning the implementation of the reservation roster in the State. He added that few members wanted more clarity before submitting the suggestions.

The party however lauded the State government for taking the party’s suggestion to implement the reservation roster in a prospective manner and not retrospective. The president also extended their gratitude to the government for amending the clause to not allow Garos from outside the State to apply for job vacancies in Meghalaya.

“We also discussed at length how to submit our suggestions with regard to the reservation policy. Since some party members need more information on this matter, we will be submitting our suggestions in the days to come and will inform accordingly,” Pangniang said.

He added that the meeting discussed at length on the purpose and intention of the Central government to implement the UCC. He said that the party has discussed at length and have decided to strongly oppose the UCC.

“We have seen from the media that the Central government will soon implement the UCC in the entire country but our party is strongly opposed to the idea of implementation of UCC in our State and we will submit our letter to the Central government,” Pangniang added.
