The state government will sign a loan agreement between the central government and New Development Bank (NDB) to fund the Meghalaya Ecotourism Infrastructure Development Programme (MEIDP).
Informing this today, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that Meghalaya stands to gain tremendously from this agreement and the government will be able to facilitate the creation of new accommodation facilities in places like Kongthong, Mawlyndep, etc.
He said that the Wangala festival venue and Tura Convention Centre work is already in progress, for which 50 crore has been earmarked.
Meanwhile, he also informed that the state government is looking to fund the creation of 1,000 homestays per year.
Through the homestay project, Rs 10 lakh will be provided, of which 70 percent of the funding will be borne by the government and 30 percent will come from the Meghalaya Rural Bank as a loan. Lyngdoh informed that the government is in the process of receiving applications and he encouraged more to be submitted.
