The East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC) celebrated its eighth anniversary at a function in Khliehriat.
The programme, chaired by Damonmi Dkhar, saw the release of a documentary on the EJNC since its inception.
It was also at this event that the EJNC and the JNC merged to form one organisation, to be known as the Jaintia National Council.
The newly elected central executive committee was formed and the new body was sworn in with Sambormi Lyngdoh the president and Wanshwa Suting the general secretary.
The oath was administered by Robertjune Kharjahrin, president of the Hynñiewtrep Youths Council. Several other pressure group leaders were also present on the occasion.
The principal of Jaiñtia Eastern College, P Nongtdu, encouraged the new body in a speech to work hard for the betterment of the community.
