Nongpoh’s roads were inundated with water today after flash floods caused by heavy rains struck the Ri-Bhoi district headquarters.
This led to significant disruption and losses for shopkeepers and the general public. The absence of a proper drainage system has exacerbated the situation.
The flash flood caused vehicles to become immobilised and the lack of proper drainage in the widening of the four-lane road by the National Highways Authority of India is primarily responsible.
Locals have had to deal with similar scenes every year during the rainy season since the roadworks began. Numerous complaints have been lodged but to no avail.
