The suggestion of Saleng Sangma, MLA from Garo Hills to merge the present job reservation quota of 40:40 to 80 per cent for all Garos, Khasis-Jaintias together appears to be a very reasonable and mature one (Highland Post Dated June 1, 2023).
This means that all and everyone passing for written exams will be based only on merit as per the marks secured by each candidate including the disabled/physically handicapped.
I would also like to suggest that the system of having another test (personal interview) should be done away with. This will help create a sense of fairness, equality and oneness amongst all these tribes while at the same time maintaining status quo for others as far as their quota is concerned.
So I crave the indulgence of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and his government to this suggestion so as to resolve and settle this problem without delay.
