The Meghalaya Congress Party is feeling re-energised after the party did well in states like Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka and is in no mood to take things for granted in the state for next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
State Congress chief Vincent Pala is the incumbent Shillong MP.
“In an election you cannot take anything for granted. Every election is tough and when we were in power we took things seriously and when we were not in power we also took things seriously,” Congress Legislature Party leader and Mylliem MLA Ronnie Lyngdoh said. “Now I think the realisation has dawned on the people that the only alternative to the BJP is the Congress.”
Taking a dig at the BJP, he said, “It is not just the question of development, it is a question of co-existing, living in harmony. India was known as a shining beacon for co-existence. Where in the world will you find people belonging to different faiths treating each other equally? Let that India exist, where everyone can live peacefully in spite of the differences in our faith, in our religion, culture, languages. That is India, that is what the founding fathers wanted. Let us live up to those expectations. Congress will live up to that unity in diversity – that is the beauty.”
